How Do I Clean an ERG Valve on a 2000 Honda Odyssey?

    • 1). Remove with an Allen wrench the six small screws that attach the black plastic engine cover and rear coil cover to the top of the engine. Lift the covers out of the engine compartment and set them aside.

    • 2). Unplug the electrical connector on top of the EGR valve. Remove the two 12 mm nuts that attach the EGR valve to the coolant crossover. The EGR valve is the black cylinder-shaped part located on the passenger side of the engine near the upper intake manifold on the 2000 Honda Odyssey. Lift the valve out of the engine.

    • 3). Spray the passages on the bottom of the valve with parts cleaner spray. Let the valve sit for a few minutes. Use a piece of screwdriver to help break up any solid chunks of carbon in the valve and spray it clean with the parts cleaner. Reinstall the valve and tighten the two 12 mm nuts securely. Plug the electrical connector back into the valve. Test drive the Honda to verify that it runs properly.
