How to Identify Video Cards by Number
- 1). Go to the "Start" menu. Click "Control Panel." Double-click your mouse on the "System" option and your "Hardware" button. Choose the "Device Manager" option. Press the addition symbol adjacent to "Display Adapters." If you have the required device drivers on your computer, your machine shows the model number of your video card. Otherwise, you have to remove the cover of your computer to identify the video card.
- 2). Turn off your laptop or desktop. Remove your power cord from the rear portion of your machine. Take out both screws from your computer's left side panel, and gently ease your panel off.
- 3). Locate the video card on your computer. Look for a portion of your video card towards the rear portion of your machine; your monitor plugs into this location. Find the white sticker on the upper portion of the card that contains your model number.
