How to Make Pyrethrum Insecticide
- 1). Harvest pyrethrum blossoms when the plant has just begun to blossom; this will maximize the amount of pyrethrins blossoms you can gather.
- 2). Let the blossoms air dry in an enclosed, dry area.
- 3). Grind the dried petals with a mortar and pestle until they are a fine powder. You could also use an old coffee grinder or blender.
- 4). Pour 2.5 ounces of the powder into a gallon of alcohol. Shake the mixture vigorously to mix.
- 5). Allow the mixture to sit for two or three days, shaking it as often as possible.
- 6). Strain mixture through the coffee filter and into the empty gallon container. Transfer the mixture into a spray bottle if desired.
