Can I Make My iPhone Ringer Louder?

    Pump Up Volume

    • One of the easiest ways to increase the ringer volume on your iPhone is to do it manually. Simply locate the volume button, which is located on the top left side of the actual device. Press the volume button until you notice a volume control meter on your display screen. The more you press the volume button, the more the meter will fill up, indicating that the ringtone is increasing in volume. Once you have found the right ring tone level, slide the ring/silent switch to ring. This switch is located directly above the volume button. If you wish to turn the ringer off, turn the phone to silent using the same switch.

    New Ring Tone

    • Even at full volume, you may feel as if your iPhone ringer is just not loud enough. If this is the case, try using a custom ring tone as compared with the ringtone that comes standard with the iPhone. Using the Garage Band application, locate the "Cell Phone Ringing" audio track. If you are using a Mac computer, use the iFuntastic application to install the ringtone onto your iPhone. If you are using Windows PC, use the iBrickr or iPhoneRingtoneMaker application to install the new ring tone. The "Cell Phone Ringing" track is naturally louder than any ringtone that comes with the iPhone.

    The Cause

    • Since the iPhone is designed to be a handheld communication device -- as well as a handheld computer, camera and media player -- the speakers are small. Although smaller speakers can lead to low volume, the iPhone speakers are not the root cause of the problem. Rather, it's the audio frequency of the ringtones that come with the iPhone. When searching for a new ringtone on Garage Band -- or through another application -- make sure it has a high frequency level to ensure a loud ring tone.

    Purpose

    • The purpose of a louder ringtone on your iPhone is -- in short -- to ensure that you never miss an important call. Many elements can lead to not hearing a low ring tone, including noisy environments or simply being hard of hearing. Although a louder ringtone can help solve these issues, they may not be full proof. If you are expecting an important call, check your iPhone frequently. If you are trying to reach someone who has a low ringtone on the iPhone, try sending a text message as well to make sure you get through to the person.
