    Root Diseases

    • Root diseases are of the wood-decay variety and are typically caused by the fungi basidiomycota. They can involve the butt, in addition to the roots, and they usually enter the roots directly or through wounds in the bottom part of the tree.

    Foliage Diseases

    • There are a large number of foliage diseases and most are caused by fungi. Although the condition is common, it is not usually serious.

    Rusts

    • Rusts are parasites that usually attach themselves to one tree during the course of their life cycle, although they may alternate between two separate trees on some occasions.

    Cankers

    • Cankers are cases of necrosis along confined areas of the bark and branches of the tree. These types of tree diseases can occur simultaneously with others, such as rust and foliage diseases.

    Wilts

    • Wilting is a side effect of other tree diseases. It presents as various parts of the tree lose their rigidity, and it can result in death of the afflicted areas.

    Bacterial Diseases

    • Bacteria can infect the tree to create a number of different conditions. Some common bacterial diseases are crown gall, fire blight and wetwood.
