Line up the outline of the modular plug on the end of the Category 5 cable with the Cat5 socket on the adapter. Push the plug straight in until it clicks in the locked position. - 2). Orient the three holes on the adapter's XLR socket on the opposite side with the three pins in an XLR cable connector. Push the two parts together until they are firmly seated.
- 3). Run the other end of the XLR cable to a compatible component, such as a digital microphone, and plug it in.
- 4). Insert the plug on the other end of the Category 5 cable into a compatible device -- such as an amplifier, receiver or mixer -- to input the signal from the XLR device.
