Sometimes it's helpful just to have a list of sermon series ideas to help prime the pump.
So the purpose of this article is to do just that...
give you ideas to build a sermon series around.
Sometimes people ask, "Do I start with the Bible for my ideas or do I start with a need that people struggle with?" Truthfully, it really doesn't matter whether you start with a need or start with a Bible passage as long as you include BOTH in your sermon.
Sometimes your sermon series might arise from some conversations you've had with members of your congregation.
You may think, "Lots of people are worried about the economy right now.
I think I need to address the issue of financial security from the pulpit.
" Or you may think, "A lot of the couples in our church seem to be struggling with parenthood right now.
I should do a series on parenting 101.
" So needs surface.
When they do you go to the Bible to see what God has to say about those particular needs.
So it's OK to start with a human need and THEN go to the Bible for information.
That's one way to create a sermon series.
Another Way To Create A Sermon Series But other times you may want to cover a particular book of the Bible, or chapter or various sections of the Bible.
You may say, "I'm going to do a 5-week series on the book of Ephesians.
" That's wonderful! As you preach through the book of Ephesians you will want to highlight what this book has to say about common human needs.
So for this particular series, you started with the Bible and THEN applied that information to a human need.
It doesn't matter so much where you start as long as you connect both the Bible and human needs together.
With that said, here are some sermon series ideas:
  • Lord's Prayer: Do a series on each aspect of the Lord's Prayer.
  • 10 Commandments: You could easily do a 10-week series here.

Do a sermon on each of the "I AM" statements that Jesus makes ("I am the bread of life," "I am the light of the world," "I am the good shepherd," "I am the truth," etc.
    ")
  • You could do a series on different painful situations people find themselves in:
