    • 1). Plug your iPhone to your computer using the USB charger that comes with the phone.

    • 2). Open iTunes if it doesn't open automatically once you plug your iPhone in.

    • 3). Click "OK" when iTunes asks you if you want to upgrade your iPhone to the latest firmware version. Since the latest version is the iOS 4.0.1, if you have the 1.1.4, then there is a new version. ITunes will then backup, upgrade and restore your iPhone; unplug it once it's done. If you don't want to upgrade to the iOS 4.0.1 but an earlier version, then click "Cancel."

    • 4). Download the firmware version you want to upgrade your 1.1.4 iPhone to from one of the websites that allows you to do so. Examples of these sites include iClarified, Sleepers and Felixbruns. (If you are using the latest firmware version, then skip this and the following steps.)

    • 5). Right-click the "Restore" button and select the firmware version you downloaded. ITunes will then backup, upgrade and restore your iPhone with the firmware version you selected. Unplug your iPhone once it's done.
