    Visual Aids

    • Visual aids always bring life to a Sunday school lesson. Photos and video of trips to the Holy Land, maps of areas of Biblical importance and illustrations of tools, food, dishes, weapons and apparel from Bible times are all important resources that allow you to visually impress your lesson plan on your students. Religious-themed movies, cartoons and documentaries are other visual aids that capture the interest of your class and bring to life the topic at hand.

    Internet

    • Internet lesson planning resources for Sunday school teachers abound. These sites are rife with resources, lesson plans and ideas to make children's church interesting for students. Check out "eBible Teacher," "Kids Sunday School," "Sunday School Resources" and "Free Sunday School Lessons" on the Internet to scratch the surface of the numerous online lesson planning sites. Coloring pages, word games, visual aids, photo backgrounds and sticker charts are just some of the many freebies offered to teachers on these sites.

    Crafts and Activities

    • Hands-on crafts and activities go a long way toward reinforcing a lesson plan and make theoretical ideas real to children. Used in conjunction with a lesson plan, they are an appropriate resource to bring what you're teaching to life. Projects such as basket weaving or "wine" making -- grape juice in reality -- are fun projects for older children to illustrate how things were done in Bible times. Younger children can help create cuisine from Bible times in the church kitchen and create three-dimensional nativity scenes with shoe boxes and construction paper.

    Books

    • When you're at a loss for what to teach next and every lesson plan has been done to death, check out some of the available books geared specifically to children's church teachers. Titles such as "Help! I'm a Sunday School Teacher," "What Every Sunday School Teacher Should Know," "32 Ways to Become a Great Sunday School Teacher" and "Sunday School Attendance Boosters: 165 Fresh and New Ideas" are chock full of ideas to revive your interest in teaching and fill you with new ideas.
