    • 1). Check the back of the Samsung TV and the surround sound receiver to determine which connection jacks are available. If the Samsung is an HDTV set and the receiver supports High-Definition Media Interface (HDMI), use an HDMI cable, which has six sides and 19 pins for digital audio and video. If HDMI jacks are not available on the Samsung and the receiver, use an RGB component video cable with red, green and blue plugs and skip to Step 3.

    • 2). Attach an HDMI cable to the "HDMI Out" jack on the receiver and the "HDMI In" jack on the Samsung TV if a high-definition digital connection is available.

    • 3). Insert the color-coded RGB plugs into the component "Video Out" jacks on the back of the surround sound receiver.

    • 4). Plug the other ends of the cables into the Samsung TV's red, green and blue component "Video In" jacks.

    • 5). Turn on the receiver and TV and set the receiver to use an attached audio-video component, such as a DVD player.
