How to Install F-Type Coax Fittings
- 1). Cut the end of the cable straight if it was not already cut. Insert the cable into the multipurpose coaxial cable cutter hole and turn it three times clockwise, then turn it back counterclockwise twice. Pull the insulation off. If the correct cable cutter was used, the inner insulation would also come off, revealing the inner core.
- 2). Fold the braided wire mesh back onto the insulated part of the wire. Distribute it evenly on the diameter of the wire. There should be only one layer of foil and thin wire mesh insulation surrounding the inner core plastic insulation. The wire mesh insulation should not touch the dielectric inner core. If a quad shield coaxial cable is used, then there will be two layers of foil and two layers of thin wire mesh surrounding the core. Adjust the blade of the cutter to leave only one layer of foil surrounding one layer of wire braid.
- 3). Insert the cable into the black ring that comes with the connector. The thin part of the ring should be facing you. Insert the dielectric into the center hole of the F-connector, then push the black ring gently into the connector.
- 4). Use the crimping tool to apply pressure on the F-connector to secure it in place. Insert the black ring and the connector in the right orientation. Consult the manual that comes with the crimping tool for how to do this. Squeeze the handle of the tool until you hear a "click," then remove the cable from the tool. The cable is ready to be used.
