How to Check a TV for Digital
- 1). Attach the coaxial cable that comes from the antenna. It plugs into the back of the television. Look for a jack marked "ANT IN" or similar.
- 2). Turn the television on and enter the Setup menu. It's usually a button on the remote control. It will be marked "Menu" or "Setup" or something similar.
- 3). Scroll to the "Air/Cable" option and choose "Air".
- 4). Look for an option which will be called "Autoscan." If there is no Autoscan option available, the television is analog, not digital, and you will need a converter box.
- 5). Run the Autoscan and scan for Channels. If the resulting scan does not include any digital channels, the television is analog and not digital; or there are no digital channels within range. Purchase a converter and place it in-line between the antenna and television following the instructions that comes with the converter. If you are still unable to receive digital channels, upgrade your antenna and try again. If you are still unable to receive digital channels, you will need to subscribe to a satellite or cable service due to the topographic or geographic limitations at your location.
