How to Put Regular Batteries in a Remote
- 1). Find the owner's manual for the electronic device that has the remote control. When you purchased the device, it should have come with a guide or owner's manual. Open the manual to the table of contents and locate the section on how to operate the remote. If you do not have the guide, you can go to the manufacturer's website and try to download it there. Finally, if the manual is not available online, you can call customer service and ask for a copy. They may charge a fee for the guide. However, if you know where the battery compartment is located, you can skip this step.
- 2). Open the battery compartment. Remotes have different ways to open the compartment. Some have a tab that you press to free the cover for removal. Others simply slide down with a little pressure. Others require you to place a coin in a small divot. When you turn the coin, the compartment will pop open.
- 3). Determine what type of batteries need to be installed. If you are using the owner's manual, it will state the size. If not, remove the old batteries and look on the bottom of the compartment. You will notice a battery symbol or diagram. Inside it will tell you what type of batteries you need. Common remote batteries are either AA or AAA size. Remotes usually take anywhere from one to four batteries for operation.
- 4). Replace the batteries as the manual instructs or follow the diagram in the battery compartment. Each battery has a positive and negative end. The correct end has to be inserted into the battery compartment when replacing batteries. The positive side will have a little nub or piece extending from the battery, while the negative end will appear flat. Note that some battery compartments have you alternate batteries in opposite directions.
- 5). Replace the cover to the battery compartment in the manner opposite of how it came off. Some simply slide back in, while others snap into place.
